Khoury Kalendar

The aim of this project was to design an interface that solves a learning problem at Northeastern University.

Final Paper

Our team decided to tackle the problems students face at office hours, particularly focusing on students taking a class under the Khoury College of Computer Sciences for this project. Students usually take multiple courses, meaning they have multiple teacher’s assistant (TA) and professor office hours to keep track of. These office hours tend to be very packed as the end of the semester and deadlines approach.

A common complaint students have is that they go to get help just to find themselves not getting help for a long time.

On the right, you can see an image of how the waitlist was managed at the time this project was proposed. It was unorganized and hard to determine who the next person in line was.

Our team proposed a solution to keep office hours organized for multiple courses, a way to check wait times and have all of this information in one place. Our system keeps all the information students need to go to office hours in one location, including location, times and who is leading the office hours. This will simplify the lives of students because it will be a one stop location for all necessary information. Additionally, our system reduces the frustration of wasting time when office hours are too full by implementing a check-in system. Through the check-in system students can view how busy the office hours are. Along with them, this UI will also serve to the TAs and professors for Khoury Classes - it will help them organise the amount of time they spend with each student by the total number of students on the waiting list. TAs can also use the waiting list to determine whether they need more help during busy hours and days.
